I have been in and around boats for the last 26 years, starting at a young age in dinghy sailing where I took up competitive racing. I have been teaching sailing for 16 years and powerboating for the last 11 years. I have sailed and used many different types of boats, large and small. I am an active volunteer for the RNLI Falmouth Sea Safety Team promoting and giving sea safety advice to people who use the sea.

Patrick Clarke

Patrick was born into boats, living aboard a Thames Sailing Barge until the age of two. He followed an Army family life, learning to row and sail in childhood in waters as far away as Japan and Singapore, as well as in the UK. His own Army career spanned 36 years, in which he raced and trained in dinghies and keelboats, mainly in UK and Baltic waters, including the Fastnet and also the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers. He has sailed in the Mediterranean a number of times and in the Black Sea. He began teaching soldiers to sail in his teens, and first gained his Senior Instructor in 1976. Since leaving the Army in 2007, he has continued his dinghy racing and extended his teaching and race training.

Chris has many years experience of teaching in the emergency services, commercial operators and leisure sailors. He is a Chartered Safety & Health Practioner. He is a serving fire officer and is a specialist in Firefighting and Rescue at Sea, being a member of the UK Search & Rescue Marine Incident Response Group. He is Senior Helmsman and instructor of Cornwall’s Fire Boat. He has been teaching at the school for the last 2 years
