Celtic Fury New For 2008
This boat will be ready in May, please ask for more info, or for enquires
Celtic Fury is a 40 foot Rob Humphreyís designed race boat, when she was built in 87 she was state of the art being built using the very best materials and techniques of the day. She went on to win many races including the prestigious Fastnet race.
As a pure race boat there was very scant regard to personal comfort down below, we have changed things a bit, but not to the extent that will allow you to forget that you are on a race boat!
Why use a race boat as a training platform? Is a question that people often ask. Firstly our customers get to sail a fast, exiting and responsive boat. From our point of view we have a boat that is massively capable in a wide variety of conditions, when others are motor sailing in light winds, we can fly an enormous light weight spinnaker, or ultra light No1 Genoa and still make good progress. Conversely if things get a little rough, we are never concerned that the crystal glasses are going to suffer in the drinks locker.
Celtic Fury is skipperd by Paul Barker, who for those who have not yet had the pleasure of meeting him can only be described as a ìracerî. Paul first qualified as an RYA instructor in 1980, and has been successfully racing any type of boat that he can get his hands on for over forty years. Paul enjoys sailing Celtic Fury in a fast and exiting way that is guaranteed to give our customers an exhilarating but safe introduction to big boat sailing that you will find hard to equal.
The accommodation now sleeps a maximum of 8 people. There is a shower/heads/wet locker on the Starboard side of the companionway, with a second heads just in front of the mast. The boat also has a heating system for that little extra comfort. The main body of the boat contains the galley and a large open plan area that is ideal for any theory or passage planning activities.
Our planned itinerary of passages this year includes several voyages to and from Loch Fyne on the west coast of Scotland. This is a distance of some 400Nm sailing past some of the most beautiful scenery in the United Kingdom viewing no less than 5 different Celtic countries (Cornwall, Wales, Isle of Mann, Ireland and Scotland) on the way!
This is a 6 day trip with one night spent moored outside the Oyster Catcher Pub at Otter Ferry. This is a truly super pub with ìpossibly the best beer garden in the worldî serving lovely food, beer and wine. Oh and the odd fine malt! An evening in this pub is so special we are prepared to sail 400 miles enough said.
We are also intending to race Celtic Fury in 3 major regattas this year, The Bell Lawrie Scottish Series in Tarbet, Falmouth Week and Burnham Week.
A slightly different week is planed to coincide with the I.O.M. TT race week combining, sailing on non race days with the opportunity to watch the motorcycle racing on race days.
Take a look at our itinerary and choose a trip, or book for a unique one-day racing experience and we can guarantee you an unforgettable experience and memories that you will treasure forever.
